Glass Heart String Choir-Ian Williams’ and Katie Mosehauer’s meticulous songwriting and production make up the centrifuge around which Glass Heart String Choir’s music spins. The roles have been established over ten years of collaboration: Ian writes the lyrics, assembling songs into rawbone skeletons. He sends them to Katie, who adds flavor and layering.
Glass Heart String Choir gorgeous EP, Light is lush and layered, playing with surging vocals over baroque musical sheets, weaving together intricate stories that express leveling doubt. Pieced together meticulously by two classically trained composers, it’s a testament to the band’s sensitivity and work ethic: a tonal masterpiece that grounds listeners in reality as it flies them away with wonderment.

An indie folk band from Portland, Oregon, Horse Feathersconsists of singer/songwriter Justin Ringle (acoustic guitar, vocals, percussion) and a rotating cast of supporting musicians, often including multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick, cellists Heather Woods Broderick and Catherine Odell, and violinist Nathan Crockett. Horse Feathers began in 2004 as a spare, mournful-sounding acoustic group, but with 2014's So It Is with Us, they matured into a breezier approach that suggested the influences of folk-rock and country-rock of the '70s.
Ringle grew up in Idaho and performed in several short-lived indie rock bands before moving to Portland, where he began playing shows under the name Horse Feathers. It was in Portland that he met Broderick, a member of the established local act Norfolk & Western. The two spent much of 2005 writing songs and honing their live performances at various Portland open-mike nights, effectively turning Horse Feathers into a duo.
Influenced by both the stark acoustic music of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska and the post-classical work of German composer Max Richter, the duo entered the studio in February 2006 to record Words Are Dead, a chamber folk album featuring Ringle's high, reedy vocals and Broderick's Baroque filigree. Words Are Dead was released on Lucky Madison Records in September 2006. The band inked a deal with the Kill Rock Stars label the following year and released House with No Home in 2008. House with No Homebecame one of the highest-selling debuts in Kill Rock Stars' history, and Thistled Spring followed in 2010, marking the group's first release without Broderick.
Horse Feathers' fourth full-length outing, Cynic's New Year, arrived in 2012, and was their first album to sell enough copies to hit the Top 200 albums chart. With 2014's So It Is with Us, Ringle added a bassist and drummer to the lineup, and the music began to take a lighter and more accessible turn. The evolution of Horse Feathers continued on 2018's Appreciation, where their Southern-accented sound began incorporating elements of classic soul and R&B.

2016 Archimage Red Wine – 92-94 Points
The 2016 Archimage checks in as a blend of 50% Cabernet Franc, 47% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, brought up in 44% new French oak. Deep ruby/purple-colored with gorgeous notes of blackberries, leafy herbs, and exotic flowers, as well as just a hint of background oak, this beauty is full-bodied, concentrated, and elegant on the palate, with great tannin. It's another wine that's going to age gracefully.
2016 Illusionist Cabernet Sauvignon – 92-95 Points
Blueberries, cassis, lead pencil and hints of graphite all emerge from the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Illusionist, which is beautifully layered, silky and pure on the palate. With medium to full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannin, and a great finish, it's another terrific wine from Trey. Drink it over the coming decade or more. The blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot, all aged 20 months in 64% new French oak.
Springtime means new releases of wines from across Walla Walla's wine community. Come out to try our new releases of the Levitation Syrah and Sorceress Grenache, along with our estate Syrah "The Psychedelic" from Stoney Vine vineyard in "the Rocks".
Wine Illusionist Society members, keep an eye on your email, but looks like we will do one of our casual open-house type events either Friday or Saturday night.
This is always a special weekend, with a Wine Illusionist Society Bottle Party on Friday night and special wines on display. RUMOR has it that we will be unveiling a new wine club for Rocks lovers--with (for wine club members) Funkadelic, Psychedelic, and the first wine off of Ziggy Stardust vineyard--being inaugurated.
Wine Illusionist Society members: check your emails for more details and what type of wine we will be featuring at the bottle party.
